mawatu means “me and you” in Dari. A simple expression of what mawatu is really about: connection.

The idea started with Lima’s own experience travelling solo — loving the freedom, but sometimes finding it hard to meet people she genuinely connected with.

Dennis knew that feeling from his own solo travels and brought his experience building several apps to turn the idea into a real product.

The more we talked to others, the more we realised it goes far beyond travel. Friends are busy or not always up for the same plans, and when you’re new to a city or living abroad as an expat, meaningful connections can be even harder to find.

But that shouldn’t stop you from taking the trip, making the plan, or doing the things you’re excited about. Somewhere nearby, someone might be looking for exactly the same thing.

That’s why we built mawatu: to bring like-minded people together through shared interests and turn connections into real plans.
